The Virginia Tech Rescue Squad is a 100% volunteer organization, operated in service to the University community 24/7, 365 days per year by some of the finest undergraduate students at Virginia Tech. We receive funding from many sources, such as Virginia Tech, the Commonwealth of Virginia, state grant programs, and generous donations from local residents and businesses.
Primarily funded through the University Student Health Fee, the Rescue Squad receives no funding from the University Education and General Fund as allocated by the Commonwealth of Virginia. As such, VTRS maintains status a University Auxiliary Enterprise; a mission-critical service of the University.
YOUR DONATION MATTERS
The critical nature of our mission means seconds count when a community member is in need. Your donation will support critical operations and emergency response, as well as important advancement projects designed to enhance the services provided to members of the Hokie nation.
The Virginia Tech Rescue Squad is actively pursuing the placement, design, and construction of a new station facility to accommodate its growing operations. Since its inception, the Rescue Squad has grown from four members to 45 to accommodate growing demands for service from a rapidly growing campus community. While the current Station 15 facility, adopted in 1983, has served the membership for 4 decades, the space has long since been outgrown.
Continued growth at Virginia Tech means a higher demand for Emergency Medical Services from our friends and neighbors. In order to effectively serve the growing needs of the campus community, apparatus renewal in the form of ambulance and first responder vehicle replacement is paramount to successful operation.
The Rescue Squad is currently in the process of replacing one of its three ambulances, with final word expected in March 2017.
Technical Rescue Disciplines
As the organization builds to support a growing University community, certain special rescue disciplines such as vehicle extrication, ropes rescue, and confined spaces rescue, become increasingly vital. Technical rescue training and equipment are often financially burdensome.
