The VTRS and the VTRS Life Membership and Alumni Association operate an electronic mailing list known as a "listserv" as a means of communications for members. Anyone who is an active, life member or alumni member of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad may join this VTRS-LMA-L list server. The list owners may also approve subscriptions for University advisors or other personnel providing service to the VTRS.
Detailed Information and GuidelinesThis list has been established to provide a means for general communication of messages to interested active, life, and alumni members of the VTRS. Just a little about the nature of this list. It is an "open" list, meaning that people can post whatever they want as long as it conforms to the established list guidelines. This list may be used for transmitting meeting and training notices, banquet and beach week information, schedules of events, job announcements, and other information of interest to a wide array of list members. It may also be used for initiating and opening discussion of issues related to fire, EMS, and public safety. Remember that your messages to this list are sent to everyone on the list; if you want only limited recipients, you should use the recipients' individual e-mail address(es) or use a distribution list or nickname list set up through your e-mail program to send such messages to one or more recipients. This list is private and confidential. It is intended for the private use of active and life members of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad. You should not publicly release the contents of messages without the expressed permission of the author and list owners, nor should you forward copies of information or messages you have obtained from it to third parties. Exceptions to this are allowed for messages marked "PUBLIC RELEASE" and for "JOB ADVERTISEMENTS". Exception is made for you to share information pertinent to VTRS and LMAA (Life Membership and Alumni Association) operations with other members of the VTRS and VTRS-LMAA who do not have access to e-mail. Otherwise, "What you hear here, what you say here, let it stay here, when you leave here!" Any infractions may result in removal from the list server. Flaming, the art of making intended or unintended insults or remarks that may hurt another person or agency, is generally considered inappropriate for list server messages. Flames (insults) belong in private mail, if they belong in mail at all. Discussions will often result in disagreements. Rebuttals to another person's opinions or beliefs should always be made in a rational, logical and mature manner, whether they are made publicly or privately. What is a flame can range from the obvious (ranting and raving, abusive comments, etc.) to the not-so-obvious (comments about actions or activities of other persons or agencies, etc.). Avoid the use of "flaming" remarks in messages you post to the VTRS-LMA-L. Subscribers should refrain from abusive or derogatory language that might be considered questionable by even the most liberal and open-minded of networkers. If you wouldn't say it in front of your mother, don't say it in electronic mail. Unsolicited advertising and chain letters are generally contrary to appropriate use policies governing the use of your account through your Internet access provider or employer. Not only that, they are annoying and (in the case of chain letters) often illegal. Such are prohibited on the VTRS-LMA-L list server. Commercial advertising by vendors is prohibited. Members may, however, advertise surplus equipment and/or discuss commercial products of benefit to operations. If you anticipate an e-mail address change, please notify us ahead of time; you may unsubscribe from your old address and subscribe from your new address, or otherwise send an e-mail message to the list administrator. If you lose your account (and the messages begin to bounce back to us and multiply in our mailbox) you will be removed from the list. By subscribing and by remaining on the VTRS-LMA-L list server, subscribers acknowledge that they accept and will follow these guidelines. The list owners reserve the right to remove anyone from the list for violations of security or for list abuse. 540-231-6411 (cell phones) When do I call for an ambulance? Is the victim’s condition life-threatening or could it worsen and become life threatening on the way to the hospital? Could moving the victim cause further injury? Does the victim need the skills or equipment of emergency medical technicians? Would distance or traffic conditions cause a delay in getting the victim to the hospital? If the answer to any of these questions is “yes,” or if you are unsure, it’s best to call an ambulance. EMTs are trained to begin medical treatment on the way to the hospital and can alert the doctors of the patient’s condition in advance. Example warning signs: Severe burns, bleeding that won’t stop, severe or persistent vomiting, coughing up or vomiting blood, suicidal or homicidal feelings, difficulty breathing, chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure, fainting or sudden collapse, sudden dizziness, weakness or change in vision, change in mental status |
