The mission of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad CPR program is to decrease morbidity and mortality of cardiac arrests by providing accessible American Heart Association CPR classes to the general public and healthcare professionals in the region.

There are two different CPR courses that will be offered throughout the year:

AHA Heart saver CPR and AED: “This course will teach you to recognize cardiac arrest, get emergency care on the way quickly, and help a person until more advanced care arrives to take over. The course also covers adult choking and naloxone.”

AHA Heart saver CPR and AED is a great option for any lay-person who wants the information and practice that will allow them to initiate effective by-stander CPR.

AHA Basic Life Support: “Basic Life Support training reinforces healthcare professionals’ understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, basic steps of performing CPR, relieving choking, and using an AED; and the role of each link in the Chain of Survival.”

AHA BLS is the industry standard CPR certification for any healthcare profession or rescue/public service profession. This certification is usually required to work in the field as an EMT, nurse, physician, or life-guard.
