Basic Life Support CPR

The mission of the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad CPR program is to decrease morbidity and mortality of cardiac arrests by providing accessible American Heart Association CPR classes to the general public and healthcare professionals in the region.

Free CPR classes through VTRS! CPR certification will be received through the American Heart Association.  About 4 hours long.

AHA Basic Life Support: “Basic Life Support training reinforces healthcare professionals’ understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, basic steps of performing CPR, relieving choking, and using an AED; and the role of each link in the Chain of Survival.”

AHA BLS is the industry standard CPR certification for any healthcare profession or rescue/public service profession. This certification is usually required to work in the field as an EMT, nurse, physician, or lifeguard.

Stop the Bleed: VTRS pairs with the Office of Emergency Management to teach free Stop the Bleed classes! Learn basic skills to help save a life! About 2 hours long.

Vitals: VTRS teaches free vitals classes! Learn how to take a blood pressure, what tachycardia means, distinguish different lung sounds, and so much more! About 1 hour long.

First Aid: Learn basic first aid skills that can help you save a life for free! About 1 hour long.

AED: VTRS offers free AED classes to instruct people how to use an AED and the mechanism behind it! About 30 minutes long.
